In July 1801 John Hichens was present at the marriage of his sister Blanch to Daniel Bamfield in St. Ives.
In 1841 John Hichens, aged about 65, born in the county, independent, and wife Azubah Hichens, aged about 60, born in the county, were living in Tregea, Illogan, Cornwall. With them were children Caroline (25), Richard (25), Nanny (20), Emma (20), William (20), mine agent.

At Tregiehouse, Illogan, on Sunday last, in the 79th* year of his age, John Hichens, Esq., for many years the sampler of Messrs. Freeman and Co. : in all situations through life an ornament to society, he died regretted by all who had the pleasure of his acquaintance.
