In 1763 John was bequeathed 1 guinea in his father's will, along with tin, copper and other metals raised from his land, a tenement and premises called Bosubben otherwise Boscombe in the parish of Zennor. According to his father, at this time John Hichens was provided for by having a place in the Custom House.

John Hichens late of Illogan, Gent., died intestate. Administration of his goods, chattels & credits was granted to his widow and relict, Blanch Hichens, on 11 May 1775. 2
