At the time of the 1841 England Census Willm. Mepham, aged about 12, was with his parents in Sidney Place, Poplar London.

At the time of the 1851 England Census William Mepham, age 21, born in Poplar Mx, iron boat builder, and wife Ellen, age 20, born in Poplar, were living at 4 Stevens Acre, Poplar Middlesex. With them was son Thomas (3 m) of Poplar.

At the time of the 1861 England Census William Mepham, age 33, born in Bromley Middx, iron boat builder, and wife Ellen, age 29, born in Limehouse Middx, were living at 10 Frances Ter., Bromley Middlesex. With them were children Thomas (10) of Poplar, scholar, William (7) of Poplar, scholar, Ellen (6) of Bromley, Richard (3) of Bromley, and Susan (1) of Bromley; father-in-law James Harrigan (65) of Ireland, dock lab., and mother-in-law Mary Harrigan (60) of Deptford Kent.
