WEST HAM POLICE COURT, March 24.
PLAISTOW : THE STABBING CASE.—William Mepham, a boiler-maker, of 2 Sawmill-terrace, Star-lane, Plaistow, was charged on remand with unlawfully cutting and wounding Margaret Webb, with intent to do her some grievous bodily harm.—The prisoner was committed for trial.

At the time of the 1891 England Census William Mepham, age 39, born in Bromley, boiler maker, and wife Sophia*, age 30, born in Sutton Essex, were living in Lodging House, West Ham Essex. With them was son Harry (6) of West Ham.

* Unless William's wife Mary had an unrecorded second given name, this is probably incorrect, as the GROE birth index indicates that Harry's mother's maiden-name was FOLEY and there is no record of William marrying again until 1899.

At the time of the 1901 England Census William Mepham, age 48, born in Poplar Middlesex, married, general labourer, was living at 13 Nelson St., West Ham, Essex. With him was son Henry (16) of West Ham, general labourer. Wife Emma Mepham, age 59, born in Bristol Glos., married, shirt machinist, and her children from an earlier marriage, were at 13 Scott St., West Ham Essex.

William married Mary Foley, daughter of Thomas Foley, on 26 Oct 1884 in St. Luke's Church, Victoria Docks, Essex, England. (Mary Foley was born about 1861 in Sutton, Essex, England and died by 1899.)
