At the time of the 1881 England Census John Mepham, age 20, born in Poplar Middlesex, rivetter, was with his parents at 1 Star Lane, West Ham Essex.

At the time of the 1891 England Census John Mepham, age 30, born in Bromley Kent* [sic], boiler maker, and wife Emma, age 26, born in Canning Town Essex, were living at 6 Cooper St., West Ham Essex. With them were children (born in Canning Town): Samuel (8), scholar, John (7), scholar, Thomas (5), scholar, Emma (1), and mother-in-law Sarah Mullins (64) of Essex, widow.

* John was born in Bromley Middlesex.

At the time of the 1901 England Census John Mepham, age 39, born in Bow London, boiler maker, and wife Emma, age 35, born in Canning Town Essex, were living at 6 Cooper St., West Ham Essex. With them were children (born in Canning Town): Samuel (18), boiler maker, John (16), rivet carrier, Thomas (15), Emma (11), William (9), Richard (7), James R (2), and mother-in-law Sarah Mullins (70) of Cambridgeshire, widow, monthly nurse.

At the time of the 1911 England Census John Mepham, age 50, born in Poplar London, rivetter for a ship builder, and wife of 28 years Emma, age 45, born in Canning Town Essex (mother of 12 children, 3 deceased), were living at 9 Plymouth Rd., West Ham, Essex. With them were children (born in Canning Town): Samuel (28), single, ship builder's rivetter, John (26), married, ship builder's rivetter, Thomas (25), single, ship builder's driller, Emma (21), single, William (19), ship builder's rivetter [and] carrier, Richard (17), ship builder's rivet carrier, James (12), school, Ellen (9), and George (4).

Possibly the same John Mepham who died during the first quarter of 1917 in the Poplar district of London, aged 56 years.
