In 1808 Houghton Vivian the son of Matthew Vivian was named as a beneficiary in the will of his grandfather Houghton Vivian of Gwennap.

In 1851 Haughton Vivian, aged 55, born in Gwennap Cornwall, formerly Captain of a mine, and wife Mary Vivian, aged 43, born in Sampford Courtenay Devon, were at 24 Park St., Plymouth Charles The Martyr, Devon. With them were children (born in Lawhitton Cornwall) Alfred (18), Albert (16), Zein?? (13), Eliza Ann (11), Josephus (8), Mary Jane (5), and Ellen (2).

In 1871 Houghton Vivian, aged 77, born in Gwennap, inventive engineer, and wife Mary Vivian, aged 62, born in Sandford Courtnay Devon, were living at Vinegar Hill Beer Ferris Devon. With them were children Eliza (29) of Lawhitton, unmarried, servant, Josephus (27) of Lawhitton, under gardener, Mary J. (24) of Calstock, servant, Ellen (22) of Calstock, servant, visitor Agnes Cook (55) of Sandford Courtnay, unmarried, governess.

In 1881 Haughton Vivian, aged 88, born in Gwennap, mining captain, and Mary (73) of Sticklepath Devon, and wife Mary Vivian, aged 73, born in Sticklepath Devon, were at Clumland Cottage, Beerferris, Devon. Present were wife's sister Agnes Cook (68) of Sticklepath Devon, unmarried, children Eliza Ann Vivian (39) of St. Leonards Cornwall, Joseph Vivian (37), unmarried, gardener, grandchildren: Arthur Vivian (15) and Emily Mary Vivian (8), both of Plymouth Devon.

Haughton Vivian of Vinegar Hill, Bere Ferrers died aged 86 years. Haughton was recorded as having been 88 years of age at the time of the 1881 census (b.c. 1793), indicating that the informant on his death understated Haughton's age by a couple of years.
