With them were children (a) born in Stokeclimsland Cornwall: Charles (16), labourer in a starch factory, Bessie (13), scholar, Harry (12), scholar, (b) born in Calstock: Bertha (7), (c) born in Plymouth Devon: Clifford (6), scholar, John (3), scholar, Lilian (1).
Alfred was not with his family at the time of the 1891 Census.
In 1901 Alfred Vivian, aged 68, born in Lewhitton Devon, marine engineer, and wife Charlotte A. Vivian, aged 56, born in Stoke Devon, were living at 30 Shaftsbury Cottages, Charles, Plymouth. With them were children (a) born in Stokeclimsland Cornwall: Charles F (36), marine engine fireman, John T (24), plasterer, and (b) born in Plymouth Devon: Lilly (21), teacher of music, Gladys (17).

SUDDEN DEATH AT THE HOSPITAL.
Alfred Vivian, 70, belonging to the vessel Marquis of Lorne, lying at Flathouse Quay, was admitted to the Royal Portsmouth Hospital at 12.45 this morning suffering from an apoplectic fit. He died a few minutes after being admitted, and before the house surgeon had seen him.

LIGHTERMAN'S DEATH.
The Coroner ... enquired into the cause of death of Alfred Vivian, an engine driver, aged 68, who resided at Shaftesbury cottages, Plymouth, but had recently been living on the steam lighter Marquis of Lorne, at Portsmouth. Thomas Baxter, captain of the lighter, said that on Friday last the deceased went ashore to buy some vegetables, and after he had returned to the vessel he came up out of the cabin saying he felt bad with pains in his head. He was taken into a store, and Dr. Wade, who was called to him, ordered his removal to the Hospital. When he was seen there by Dr. Driver, death had taken place, and the cause was apoplexy from natural causes. A verdict to this effect was returned.
