Abstract of the Will of Anthony Blagrave of Bulmarsh in the Parish of Sonning in the County of Berks, Gentleman, written 12 Aug 1653, proved 2 Jun 1654. 4
To be buried in the vault in the chancel of the church of Sonning.
Directs his executors to sell his manor and farm of Shorthampton along with the rights & members in Chalbery and elsewhere in co. Oxon, as well as several tenements in the town of Reading in co. Berks, in order to pay his debts.
The rest of his manors, lands, tenements and hereditaments he gives to his son and heir apparent and his heirs male. If there are no such heirs, then he gives the same to his brother George Blagrave and his heirs male. In default of issue he wills the same to his brother John Blagrave and his heirs male.
Gives £1,500 each to his daughters Rebecka and Dorothie. Also gives to them each an annuity of £20 for their maintenance and education.
Gives a black cloak each to his cousin Oliver Blagrave, his servants James Libb, John Randall and Ralph Slaughter, requesting they carry his body to the church.
Gives to the said James Libb and John Randall a year's wages.
Gives £5 to his servant Samuel Goulder and a black suit.
Gives a black gown each to his maidservants Martha Pumooke?, Anne Longe, Margarett Newland and Margarett Ilsley.
Gives to his said maid-servant Martha a year's wages for her care during his sickness.
Gives 40 shillings to the poor of the parish of Sonning, to be bestowed by the churchwardens at the churchhouse in bread and beer. He gives another 40 shillings to be distributed among the poor on the day of his funeral.
Gives to his wife Rebecca the use of his dwelling in Bulmarsh and all the household stuff.
Gives mourning apparel to his father, brothers John and George, sisters Anne, Dorothy and Jane.
Gives to Mr. Thomas Saxby cloth and ribbon for a gown.
Appoints his friends Anthony Barker of Sonning, Esqr, Richard Knollis of Winchington in co. Bucks, Esqr, and Anthony Libb of Goringe in co. Oxon, Gent. co-executors of his last will and testament.
