LEWES.
SUDDEN DEATH OF MR. VINCENT VINE.

It is with feelings of deep regret that we announce the sudden death of Mr. Vincent Vine, veterinary surgeon, of this town, which sad event took place about seven o'clock on Thursday evening. It appears that about that time one of the household went into the parlour, where Mr. Vine was sitting alone, and found him partially on the floor, apparently in the act of raising himself by the aid of a chair. Before assistance could be rendered, he fell back into the corner of the room, and after breathing once or twice expired. Dr. Smythe and Mr. Hother, surgeon, were immediately in attendance, but of course their efforts were of no avail. Mr. Vine was held in as high esteem by a large and influential circle of acquaintances, as he was respected and beloved by his numerous relatives and friends. He was in partnership with Mr. John Grover, and leaves a widow and young family to mourn their loss. He was 37 years of age. In his profession Mr. Vine was considered exceedingly skilful, which brought him into contact with farmers, agriculturists, &c., throughout a wide district. His untiring exertions during the recent prevalence of the cattle plague and the small-pox among sheep won for him the thanks and confidence of the entire farming interest. A few minutes before this untimely event, Mr. Vine, always of a cheerful disposition, was in unusually high spirits, owing doubtless in some degree to the fact that a juvenile party were enjoying themselves in the house at the time. The rejoicings of the little folks were thus brought to a sad termination. Of the immediate cause of Mr. Vine's death we cannot at the present moment speak with certainty. For a long time past he has suffered from a severe cough, for which he appeared to be able to get but little relief. His death, in all probability, arose from apoplexy or heart disease.
