Abstract of the Will of Phillip Bartholmew of Oxenhoath in the Parish of West Peckham in the County of Kent, Esquire, written 12 Mar 1727/8, proved 19 Feb 1729/30. 6
Refers to an indenture dated 4 Jun 1718, wherein his late father and mother, Leonard Bartholmew of Oxenhoath and Elizabeth his wife, conveyed the capital messuage and mansion house called Oxenhoath in the parish of West Peckham with its park land, to himself, Philip Bartholmew, for his use.
Gives to his brother Leonard Bartholomew the parsonage of West Peckham, in trust.
Wills that his horses, bullocks, sheep, cattle, corn, hay, straw, provender stock of hops, instruments of husbandry, should be sold for the best price after his decease, and resulting money be placed out at interest in parliamentary funds or the like, as his brother Leonard thinks fit.
Gives to his wife Mary all her jewels and other ornaments, and £100 for mourning.
Gives £200 to his son John Know Bartholmew, to be paid to him when he turns twenty-one.
Gives £20 to his son John Know Bartholmew to buy mourning.
Gives £20 to his brother Humphry Bartholmew to buy mourning.
Gives £40 to his brother Leonard Bartholmew to buy himself and his wife mourning.
Gives a gold ring each to his mothers-in-law Mrs. Thomas and Mrs. Know, all of his wife's brothers and sisters, his own brothers and sisters, his cousin Brooks', Mr. John Gallant, Mr. Henry Burvill and Mr. Thomas Pickering.
Gives £5 to the poor of West Peckham.
Gives 40 shillings each to the overseers of the poor of the parishes of Plaxtoll and Hadlow.
All the rest of his leases, leasehold estates, goods, chattels and personal estate he gives to his son Leonard Bartholmew.
Nominates his brother Leonard Bartholmew executor of his will and, with his kinsman Mr. Francis Brook, appoints them guardians of his sons Leonard Bartholomew and John Know Bartholmew, until they reach their respective ages of twenty-one years.
