Abstract of the Will of Leonard Bartholmew the Elder of Oxenhoath in the Parish of West Peckham in the County of Kent, Esquire, written 30 Jul 1718, proved 6 Aug 1722. 5
Gives and devises to the Rev. Mr. Henry Burvil the capital messuage called Oxenhoath House in West Peckham, as well the parsonage of West Peckham, in trust, for the benefit of his wife Elizabeth Bartholomew.
Gives to his wife Elizabeth his jewels, plate, household stuff and furniture, his coach and coach horses, other horses, bullocks, sheep, other cattle, corn, hay &c. for the term of her natural life.
Gives to his eldest son Philip Bartholmew his tenement and several parcels of marshland called Greenborough and Woolfleete in Upchurch in co. Kent.
Gives £15 to the poor of the parish of St. Nicholas in the city of Rochester.
Gives 5 guineas to the Rev. Mr. Samuel Wyley, the present vicar of the said St. Nicholas.
Gives a shilling each to the poor widows of West Peckham and to any one else receiving alms from that parish.
Gives 20 guineas to the Rev. Mr. Henry Burvil, vicar of West Peckham.
Gives sixpence each to the poor widows of the parishes of Wrotham and Hadlow, and to any others receiving alms from those parishes.
Gives 20 guineas to the Rev. Mr. Thomas Pinkering.
Gives £20 to his wife for mourning.
Gives to his three sons Philip, Leonard and Humphry £10 each for mourning.
Gives £5 each to his servants over and above their usual wages.
All the rest of his goods, chattels and personal estate he gives to his two younger sons Leonard Bartholmew and Humphry Bartholmew, share and share alike.
Appoints his wife Elizabeth Bartholmew sole executrix of his last will and testament during her life, and after her decease he appoints his three sons Philip, Leonard and Humphry co-executors.
