In 1613 Joyce Codrington was sole executrix and a beneficiary of her husband's will.

In 1619 Joyce Codrington was named as a beneficiary in her mother's will, to receive £30 to buy coach horses.

Abstract of the Will of Joyce Codrington of the Parish of Dodington in the County of Gloucester, Widow, late Wife of Richard Codrington, Esquire, written 25 Aug 1635, proved 5 Apr 1636. 2

(Right-hand edge of the will is fragmented).

Gives £20 to Mr. Robert Renold, minister, which she owes him. If she manages to pay it within her lifetime, then the £20 is to go to Barbary Codrington, daughter of her son Robert.

Gives to (her daughter) Elizabeth the bed she lies on with everything belonging to it. Also gives Elizabeth her watch and the spruce chest at the foot of her bed.

Gives to her daughter Isabell . . . . . . . , all the brass & pewter in the kitchen. She also gives to Isabell her father's picture.

Gives to her daughter-in-law, wife of her son Samuel Codrington, a silver sugar box and her velvet cloak.

Gives to her son Richard Codrington's wife a silver porringer.

Gives to Elizabeth Codrington the daughter of her son Samuel Codrington a gilt bowl with a cover.

Gives £3 to her goddaughter Elizabeth Baynham.

Gives 40 shillings to her godson Beniamyn Jones, son of Mr. William Jones.

Gives 20 shillings each to Mr. Robert Renold and Mr. William Kemp, so they can buy rings.

Gives 20 shillings to her sister Rouswell so she can buy a ring.

Gives 20 shillings to the poor of Dodington.

Gives 10 shillings each to Bridget Street, widow, and Richard Walsh, shoemaker.

Gives all her ornaments and clothing to her four daughters Anne, Elizabeth, Joyce and Isabell, share and share alike.

Gives to her daughter Hunton a silver pot.

Gives to her daughter Dunled? a silver pot.

Gives to her daughter Stoaks a silver pot.

Gives to her grandchild Joyce Stoaks her chest of child bed linen.

All the rest of her household stuff and plate she leaves to her grandchild Richard Codrington, son and heir of her son Samuel Codrington.

Notes that her son Samuel Codrington leased an estate in Dodington from her brother William Borlas on 20 Nov 1621, and that he should pay to her executor the sum of £339 2s. 8d. within one year after her decease.

Gives to her son Gyles the smaller of the gilt cups.

Gives to her son Thomas the bigger of the gilt cups.

Gives £25 to her son Robert.

Gives £45 to her son Gyles.

Gives to her son Thomas the spruce chest in her bedchamber, and her gold ring.

Her son John's portion is already expressed in her husband's will and which she has already released to her son Samuel who, by the will of his father, should have paid the same to her.

Gives 30 shillings to her man servant and 20 shillings to her maid servant.

Appoints her nephew Sir John Backhouse, Knight of the Bath, and her two sons William Codrington and Thomas Codrington, co-executors of her last will and testament, giving to her said nephew 20 shillings so he can buy a ring.

All the rest of her goods she gives to her said two sons William and Thomas, and desires that her nephews William and Samuel Typpinge be overseers of last will and testament, giving them 10 shillings each to buy themselves gloves.
