In 1841 Thomas Gilbert, aged about 45, . . . . . . . , and wife Phillis Gilbert, aged about 45, were living in St. Johns, Sithney. With them were children Elizabeth (25), Mary (15), Thomas (15), wheelwright ap[prentice], John (10) and Jane* (5).

In 1851 Thomas Gilbert, aged 58, born in Helston, labourer, and wife Philis, aged 60, born in Helston, were living in Sithney St. Johns, Sithney. With them were son John (21) of Helston, unmarried, shoemaker, granddaughter Jane Gilbert (15) of Helston, and grandsons William Gilbert (13) of Helston, gardener, and George Gilbert (10) of Stoke Devon.
In 1861 Thomas Gilbert, aged 66, born in Helston, confectioner, and [2nd] wife Mary Gilbert, aged 46, born in Lizard Cornwall, were living in St. Johns, Sithney. With them were step-daughter Trisa? J Hill (11) of Breage, and daughter Grace M. Gilbert (7) of Sithney, scholar.
