In 1901 Bessie Curnow, aged 12, born in Gwithian Cornwall, was with her parents in Connor Downs, Gwinear, Cornwall.

In March 1906 Bessie Curnow was present at the marriage of her sister Edith Curnow to William Henry Richards in Gwinear, Cornwall.

In 1911 Bessie James, aged 22, born in Gwinear Cornwall and husband Joseph Arthur James, aged 28, born in Gwinear, a mason labourer, were living in Reawla Gwinear with sons Arthur Andrew (4) and Joseph (3).

In 1921 Bessie James, aged 33 years, born in St. Gwinear Cornwall, home duties, and husband Joseph Arthur James, aged 37 years 4 months, steel worker, were living in Carnhell Green, Camborne, Cornwall. With them were children (born in Gwinear) Arthur Andrew (14y 1m), Joseph Henry (12y 11m), Stanley (8y 4m), William Herbert (2y 10m), and Louis (9m).

In the 1939 Register Bessie James (b. 16 Jun 1888), widowed, domestic duties, was living in Carnhell Green, Camborne, Cornwall. At the same address were (sons) Louis (b. 20 Sep 1920), railway porter, Cecil (b. 11 Nov 1925), at school.
