At the time of the 1851 England Census Richard Mepham, age 23, born in Middlesex, iron boat builder, was with his parents in Orchard Road, Bromley St. Leonard, Middlesex.

At the time of the 1861 England Census Richard Mepham, age 34, born in Bromley Middlesex, boiler maker, and wife Mary, age 23, born in New Cut, Lambeth Surrey, were living at 15 Horace St., Lambeth Surrey. With them were children: Mary (4) of Walworth Surrey, Susan (3) of Bond St., Vauxhall Surrey, and Richard (7 mo.) of Bromley Middlesex.

At the time of the 1881 England Census Richard Mepham, age 49 [sic], born in Bromley Middlesex, iron ship builder, and [2nd] wife Clara*, age 48, born in Bloomsbury Middlesex, were living at 44 Augusta St., Poplar London.

* After the death of his first wife, Mary, Richard married her sister Clara.
