In 1781 John was named as a beneficiary in his father's will. In 1794 John Michell was a beneficiary of the will of his aunt Ann Cloak of Penzance, widow, who left him 10 guineas. In 1803 John Mitchell was a beneficiary of the will of his aunt Constance Warner of Putney, widow, who left him £500.
