---------------------

On Saturday night news was received at Camborne from Central City, Colorado, concerning the accidental death of Mr. Thomas Ennor Bartle, son of Mrs. Sarah Bartle, late attendant at the Camborne Assembly-rooms, and now Mrs: Sarah Borlase, of Butte City, Montana. Deceased, who left Camborne about three years ago, was much esteemed. At Tincroft Mine, where he was employed as a working engineer, he was a great favourite with the present manager—Captain W. Teague—and the whole of the employés, and also with the members of the Camborne Primitive Methodist Society, for which he laboured very assiduously. In America, he worked underground, and on the 27th April he was engaged with two other young men from Camborne, named R. Williams and W. Tippet, when he fell a depth of about eighty feet, pitching on his head. At the time his companions were drilling a hole, and heard something fall down the stope behind them and a voice shouting "Bartle has fallen away." Williams and Tippet had to remain where they were for a little while, not daring to move for fear that they might cause some debris to fall upon Bartle, and the rescuing party, who first saw him, were the quickest to render assistance. After being removed from his position it was seen that his head was terribly smashed. Tippet thereupon rode up in the "bucket" and helped to take the sufferer to his home, but Bartle died after twenty hours, apparently in great agony....
