At the time of the 1841 England Census Edward Jefferies, aged 14, born in the county, ag. lab, was with his parents in Hunt Mill, Wootton Bassett Wilts.

At the time of the 1851 England Census Edward Jefferies, aged 23, born in Wootton Bassett Wilts, railway porter, and wife Mary Ann, aged 29, born in Brompton Middlesex, were living in Sturtmead St., Biggleswade Bedforshire. With them was son Edward A (1) of St. Luke's Middlesex.

At the time of the 1871 England Census Edward Jefferies, aged 43, born in Wootton Bassett Wilts, coal merchant &c., and wife Mary A, aged 50, born in London, were living in Barton Buthay, Wootton Bassett. With them were children Edward A (21) of London, boat owner, Robert H (17) of ---erbrough Northamptonshire, brickmaker's labourer, Mary A (10) of Wootton Bassett, scholar, Kate (7) of Wootton Bassett, scholar, and Arthur (12) of Wootton Bassett, scholar.

At the time of the 1881 England Census Edward Jefferies, aged 53, born in Wootton Bassett Wilts, coal merchant (employing 2 men) and wife Mary A, aged 59, born in Brompton Middlesex, were living in Coxstalls, Wootton Bassett. Present were children Edward (31) of St. Luke's London, unmarried, labourer for his father, Mary A (19) of Wootton Bassett, dressmaker, and Kate (16) of Wootton Bassett, dressmaker. Edward's niece, Ann Chequer and her family, were living nextdoor.

At the time of the 1891 England Census Edward Jefferies, aged 63, born in Wootton Bassett Wilts, retired coal merchant, and wife Mary Ann, aged 69, born in Brompton Middlesex, were living in Coxstalls, Wootton Bassett. With them were children (born in Wootton Bassett, single): Arthur (31), coal merchant's clerk, and Mary Ann (29), dressmaker. Edward's niece, Ann Chequer and her family, were living nextdoor.

At the time of the 1901 England Census Edward Jefferies, aged 73, born in Wootton Bassett Wilts, living on own means, and wife Mary Ann, aged 78, born in Brompton Middlesex, were living in Coxstalls, Wootton Bassett. With them was grandson Arthur Thatcher (4) of Monkton Taunton Somerset.
