At the time of the 1871 Canada Census James Chegwin, aged 34, born in England, blacksmith, and wife Margrett J. Chegwin, aged 35, born in Ontario, were living in Wentworth North, Ontario, Canada. With them were children (born in O) Jane A. (11), William B. J. (10), Frederick B. J. (6), Emma E. E. (3) and Lotta M. J. (11 months).
In 1890 James Chegwin, blacksmith, was informant on the death of his maternal cousin William Blight Williams of Ontario.
