In 1861 Catherine Hocking, aged 35, born in Camborne Cornwall, and husband Henry Hocking, aged 41, born in Gwinear Cornwall, were living in Parkengew, St. Gluvias, Cornwall. With them were children Henry S. (10) of Adelaide, South Australia, scholar, Sarah A. (9) of Adelaide, scholar, Joseph (7) of Adelaide, scholar, Ada (2) of Melbourne Australia, Alice Yorkshire (8m), born on board (the vessel) Yorkshire, Catherine's sister Susan Sims (16) of Camborne, housemaid. (Daughter Eliza J. Hocking, aged 5, born in Australia, was with her grandmother Mary Ann Sims in Carwinnen, Camborne.)
In 1871 Catherine Hocking, aged 46, born in Camborne, and husband Henry Hocking, aged 51, born in Illogan Cornwall, farmer of 120 acres employing 1 labourer & son, were in Trelill, Wendron, Cornwall. With them were children (born in Australia) Henry S. (20), farmer's son, Sarah A. (19), Eliza J. (15), Ada (12), Alice (10), and born in England: Clara (8) and Josephine (4).
In April 1876 Catherine Hocking, widow, was co-executor of her late husband's will.

PENRYN.
SUDDEN DEATH.—Considerable gloom has been cast over the town owing to the sudden death of Mrs. Catherine Hocking, relict of the late Mr. Henry Hocking, farmer, which occurred near Antron, Mabe, on Sunday evening last. Deceased had been unwell for several weeks, but on Sunday felt better than usual, and spent the afternoon at a relative's house, after which she went for a walk at Antron, and remained for an hour or two at a friend's house. After leaving Mrs. Hocking complained of sickness. Her companions, Mr. and Mrs. Bishop, of Penryn, sought to assist her, and at her request she was placed against the hedge, Mrs. Bishop holding her while her husband went to the nearest public-house for some spirit, but before he returned she was no more. Deceased was 54 years of age, and leaves a family of seven children. A coroner's inquest was held on Tuesday, where the jury returned a verdict of "Died by the visitation of God."
