In 1871 John Rosce, aged 28, born in Trieste Austria, married, mate, was on board the vessel Plover in Plymouth St. Andrew, Devon.
In 1881 John Rosce, aged 38, born at sea, seaman, wife Amelia J. Rosce, aged 37, born in Mylor, and children (born in Weymouth) Joseph J. P. (10), scholar, Emily J. (7), scholar, Nelly (4), scholar, Amelia M. (2), were with Amelia's widowed father at 6 Ebenezer Place Weymouth.

WEYMOUTH.
THE LOSS OF THE SARAH.—There are only two grave fears that the Sarah, of Londonderry, Captain Rosce, foundered during the terrible gales and that all on board have perished. The circumstances connected with the loss of this vessel are of a most painful character, and we feel sure when made known will elicit the sympathy and support of a generous public. Captain Rosce was part owner of the Sarah, and on board of her was his only son, Joseph, so that now the family residing in Weymouth have been deprived of the bread-winners and left unprovided for. Captain Rosce had invested all his savings in purchasing a share in the ship, which unfortunately was uninsured, so that an additional pecuniary misfortune has fallen on the widow and three daughters. Major Brymer, M.P., has promised to render assistance.
