-----------------------------

Sabina Adams does not appear in either the 1861 or 1871 England Censuses. This might be explained by the fact that, throughout the 1850s and 1860s, beginning in 1852 and ending in 1868, a number of newspapers reported that a 'respectably-dressed woman' by the name of Sabina Adams, widow, of Brighton, was repeatedly arrested, sentenced and incarcerated for stealing clothing. Her age as given in the reports indicate that she was born about 1814/5. The official government documentation confirms the multiple offences, where they were committed and, with a couple of exceptions, her age and marital status. However, the above 'Release of Trusts' seems to indicate that Sabina's husband, John Adams, was still living in 1856, and the Sabina Adams charged as indicated is referred to as a widow some four years earlier. As such, the evidence is not conclusive as to whether they are the same Sabina Adams.

At the time of the 1881 England Census, Sabina Adams, age 67, born in Bexhill, widow, dressmaker, was in Wandsworth and Clapham Union Workhouse, Battersea Surrey.
