In December 1606 Joanna Trapson, widow, was granted Administration of her late husband's personal effects.

Writing his Will in Jan 1612, Robert Painter of Hailsham bequeathed to his daughter "Joane now the wife of Richard Carpenter of Pevensey gentleman" 10 shillings.

In 1614 Joane was sole executrix of the Will of her husband Richard Carpenter of Pevensey, yeoman, who bequeathed to her all his moveable goods and chattels, as well as all his lands, tenements and hereditaments in the town of Rye for the term of her natural life.

The Will of Joane Young of the Parish of Wilmington, in the County of Sussex, Widow, written 12 Feb 1634/5, proved 7 Aug 1635. 7

In the name of god amen. The twelfth Day of February in the yeere of or lord god 1634 I Joane Young of the parish of Wilmington in the County of Sussex widowe beinge of whole mind & in good & perfect remembrance (laud and praise be unto almighty god) doe make & ordaine my last will & testament in manner and forme following, That is to say, first I comend my soule into the hands of Almighty god, and my body to be buried in the Chauncell belonging to the parish Church of Wilmington aforesaid, And I bequeath to my Daughter Joane Akehirst one silver Saltseller, one silver Dramcup and twoe gold rings: Item I bequeath to my grandchild Thomas Akehirst one silver Kan, one bedstedle, one downe bed and one bolster twoe pillowes twoe blankets one towlet, It: I beqeath to my grandchild William Akehirst one silver bowle one featherbed and one bolster; Item I bequeath to my grandchild Margaret Akehirst the full sum of twenty pounds of lawfull money of England to be paid to her the said Margaret at the age of one & twenty yeers or at the day of marriage which shall first happen, And alsoe one silver double Saltseller, my biggest gold ring and one ioyn---- with twoe lockes. Item I bequeath to my grandchild Anna Akehirst the like sume of twenty pounds to be paid at the age of one & twenty yeeres or at the day of marriage which shall first happen; and also one silver beaker & one gold ring. Item I bequeath to my grandchild Katharine Akehirst the full sume of twenty pounds to be paid at the age of one & twenty yeeres or at the day of marriage which shall first happen, And also one gold ring one silver winecup one little silver gilted saltseller, and one silver spoone. Item I bequeath to my grandchild Joane Akehirst likewise the full sume of twenty pounds to be paid at the same age as aforesaid or at the day of marriage which shall first happen, And alsoe one gold ring one silver porringer one silver cauldlecup and one spoone. Item I bequeath all the rest of my household stuffe equally to be divided between these my fower grandchildren daughters, aforesaid namely betweene Margaret Anna Katharine and Joane. Item I bequeath to my brother William Painter one marke a year that is to say thirteen shillings & fower pence to be paid quarterly during his life to be paid by my sonne John Akehirst; And of this my p'sent testament I make and ordain my sonne John Akehirst my sole Executor, and I utterly revoke and adnull all other testamts wills legacies bequests & Executors by me in anie wise befor this time made named willed and bequeathed.
