At the time of the 1881 England Census James H Neve, aged 14, born in Warbleton Sussex, scholar, was with his parents in Rehoboth Cottage, Warbleton.

At the time of the 1891 England Census James H Neve, aged 23, born in Warbleton, painter, was with his widowed sister Mary J Billenness (34) of Warbleton Sussex, widow, needlewoman, at 26 Commercial Rd., Eastbourne Sussex.

HEATHFIELD.

DEATH AND FUNERAL OF MR. BERT NEVE.—The death took place about mid-day on Thursday of last week of Mr. "Bert" Neve. The deceased, who was 42 years of age and un-married, was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Neve. He was of a retiring disposition and was for many years a sergeant in the now defunct local Artillery Volunteers. At the time of his death he resided with his brother-in-law and sister (Mr. and Mrs. Ebenezer Mockford) at York Lodge, Broad Oak. The funeral took place at the Baptist Chapel on Monday afternoon amidst many signs of regret. Mr. W. W. West (pastor) conducted the service and the mourners were Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Baker (brother-in-law and sister, Hailsham), Mr. and Mrs. Henry Neve (brother and sister-in-law), Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Neve (brother and sister-in-law), Mr. and Mrs. Ebenezer Mockford (brother-in-law and sister), Misses Olive, Ethel, Minnie and Mercy Neve, and Grace Billenness (nieces), Messrs. Sidney and Ebenezer Billenness and Gilbert Mockford (nephews), Mr. Blackman (cousin, Hastings), Mr. Hobbs (cousin, Catsfield), Mr. J. Habens (cousin, Tunbridge Wells).... The coffin was of polished elm with brass furniture, and was inscribed: "James Herbert Neve, died April 28th, 1910, aged 42 years." It was borne from York Lodge to the chapel by four of deceased's friends, viz. M. Waters, A. Tester, H. Hobden, and J. Baker. There were no flowers. The funeral arrangements were in the hands of Mr. George Staples.
