In 1851 Joseph Chivers, aged 47, born in Somerset [sic], ostler, and wife Ann, aged 37, born in Somerset were living in East Dean Gloucestershire. With them were children (born in East Dean Gloster): John (14), apprentice tailor, Geo. (20), engine smith.

In 1871 Joseph Chivers, aged 65, born in Lydeard Wilts, innkeeper, widower, was living at 2 Woodside Rd., Flaxley, Gloucestershire. With him was widowed daughter Eliza Hadley (45) of Cheltenham Glouc.

In 1881 Joseph Chivers, aged 76, born in Liddiard Wilts, retired storekeeper, widower, was living at 2 Woodside Rd., Flaxley, Gloucestershire. With him was widowed daughter Eliza Hadley (55) of Cheltenham Glouc, domestic housekeeper.
