Writing his Will in 1721 John Mepham of Heathfield, yeoman, bequeathed 2 shillings 6 pence to his daughter Dorothy 'now the wife of John Deering...I having heretofore provided for her.' He bequeathed her two sons John Dearing and Christopher Dearing £20 each and £5 to his grandson Henry Dearing.
In 1732 Dorothy Mepham was the sole executrix of her husband's Will, who bequeathed her his copyhold tenements and barn on two pieces of land called Stuckles in Heathfield for the term of her natural life.
