The Vita Lodewici comitis de Arnstein records that "in castro Arnstein…comes…Lodewicus" had seven sisters, of whom the seventh married "in Sutpheniensem…comitiam". It is more likely from a chronological point of view that Agnes was the daughter of Ludwig [II] than Ludwig [I] but the primary source which confirms that this correct has not yet been identified. Agnes married Gf. Hendrik I VAN GELRE, son of Gf. Gerhard II VAN GELRE and Ermgard VAN ZÜTPHEN, Heiress of Zütphen, about 1135. (Hendrik I VAN GELRE was born about 1117 in Guelders, Holland and died between 27 May 1182 and 10 Sep 1182.) |
