On Saturday last, Richard Thomas, of Tretheage, esq. who had been upwards of 50 years an alderman of the borough of Saltash, in which capacity he exhibited the most exemplary disinterestedness and integrity. Cheerfulness of temper, simplicity of manners, and a social spirit endeared him to his numerous friends and acquaintances. To the necessitous he was always a timely, active, and indulgent friend. In his religious and moral duties he was strict, conscientious, and of inflexible fidelity. Temperance and exercise had secured to him uninterrupted health through the long period of 85 years, and his latter days were enlivened by cheerful hope and firm resignation, the result of his unaffected piety.

Abstract of the Will of Richard Thomas of the Parish of Veryan in the County of Cornwall, Esquire, written 12 Aug 1805, proved 13 Nov 1806. 2
Gives one guinea to John Collier of Veryan.
Gives an annuity of £10 to Frances the wife of the said John Collier.
Gives to his wife Susannah his five best beds with their furnishings and bedding, all his household furniture, linen, china, plate, liquor &c., as well as the use of his dwelling house in Veryan along with various fields and closes of land.
All the rest of his estates real and personal he gives and bequeaths to his niece Mary Collins the wife of Edward Collins, Esq., appointing her the sole executrix of his last will and testament.
