The name of Ambrose Chesson appears in the 1696 Oath Roll for St. Mawes (within the parish of St. Just in Roseland). The "Association Oath" of 1696 was a loyalty oath required by the British government following a plot to assassinate King William III. It obligated office holders and other prominent individuals to affirm their allegiance to the King and support his government. 2
