"OBITUARY

SQ./LDR. E. J. ANNISON

The sad news was received in Wagga yesterday by his aunt, Mrs. M. Irving, of 14 Fitzhardinge-st., of the sudden death at his home at Hampton, Melbourne, on Sunday afternoon of Squadron Leader Edward James Annison, at the age of 55 years. Born in Wagga and educated at the South Wagga School, he was afterwards employed in the Postal Department. He served with distinction throughout the 1914-18 war in the A.I.F., winning the M.M. at the Battle of Mons. Later, for further conspicuous bravery he was awarded the D.C.M. After returning to Australia he joined the Air Force at Point Cook, where he was in charge of construction works and was drill instructor. He was afterwards chosen as one of the personal attendants of the present King (then the Duke of York), on the occasion of his and the Duchess' visit to Australia. For his strict attention to duty he was awarded the R.V.M. (Royal Victorian Medal). He is survived by his wife and one son, Wallace; two brothers, Norman and Roy, of Melbourne, and one sister, Mrs. John Seammen. also of Melbourne. Two brothers, Leslie and William, predeceased him. Squadron Leader Annison attended the coronation of King George afterwards remaining in England for special instruction, which proved useful during the war just concluded. Those who knew him will regret the death of a brilliant soldier and a genial and sterling character.
