In 1871 Ernest Spackman, aged 9, born in Wootton Bassett Wilts, scholar, was with his parents in High Street, Wootton Bassett.

In 1881 Ernest Spackman, aged 19, born in Wootton Bassett Wilts, single, railway telegraph clerk, was lodging at 13 Eastleigh, South Stoneham Hampshire.

In 1891 Ernest A Spackman, aged 29, born in Wootton Bassett Wilts, railway clerk (booking office), and wife Elizabeth P, aged 25, born in Devizes Wilts, were living at 29 Waverley Estate, Farnham Surrey. With them was daughter Florence E (2) of Basingstoke Hants.

In 1901 Ernest Spackman, aged 39, born in Wootton Bassett Wilts, railway station master, and wife Elizabeth, aged 34, born in Devizes Wilts, were living in Master's House, Railway Station, Milton Hampshire. With them were children Florence (12) of Basingstoke Hants, and Cyril (2) of New Milton Hants, and mother-in-law Elizabeth Hobbs (59) of Chippenham Wilts, widow, living on her own means.
