According to some researchers, there is a strong likelihood that Mary's mother was an indigenous woman, possibly of the Eora tribe. However, the absence of any relevant records, and the Aboriginal tradition in which it is taboo to mention the names of deceased persons, means we will never know for certain who Mary's mother's people were/are.
